The Story

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Papa Lu discovered his passion for music through the region's thriving hip-hop scene. Early on, he threw parties with legendary artists like Digable Planets, Digital Underground, Gang Starr, and Kool Keith.

Exposure to house music pioneers at the same venues sparked a natural transition into dance music, leading him to produce events like Night Moves at Monarch SF and eventually launch a serious career as a DJ.

In 2013, he co-founded The Kazbah, one of the most popular sound camps at Burning Man, quickly gaining a devoted following. Since then, he's performed at world-class festivals including EDC, Escape, BPM, Ocaso (six consecutive years), Vujaday, and SXMusic.
